Wheel privacy policy
Last updated: 24 October 2026
Wheel is made by Rana ("I", "me"). It turns your phone into a racing wheel for games on your own PC, through Wheel for PC. This policy explains what Wheel does with your data. I never receive any of it.
What Wheel sends, and where
Wheel talks only to the PC you connect it to, running Wheel for PC, over your own Wi-Fi. Nothing goes to the internet, to me, or to anyone else. While you drive, the phone sends that PC:
- Your controls: how the phone is turned and tilted, worked out on the phone as steering, gas and brake, and the buttons you press.
- Your phone's name, as set in Android's settings (or its model if it has none), so the PC can show which phone is which.
- A random id, made by Wheel the first time it runs, so the PC can give the same phone the same controller again. It isn't linked to you, your Google account or your phone's hardware.
- Proof that you scanned the PC's code, if you did: a value worked out from that code, so the PC can let the phone in without asking. The code itself isn't sent.
To find your PC, the phone asks the local network for it, with its name and random id. The PC answers with its name, and while you drive it sends back the game's rumble, your player number and which Xbox button each of your buttons presses.
Sensors
Wheel reads the phone's motion sensors (and on flip phones, the hinge) only while its drive screen or its Settings are open, and only to steer and to work the pedals. Nothing they read is stored.
What Wheel stores
On your phone only, in Wheel's private storage: your settings, your neutral pose, the address of the last PC you used, the code from the last PC you scanned, and the random id. Uninstalling Wheel, or clearing its storage, deletes all of it.
Wheel for PC
Wheel for PC keeps its settings, its list of the phones you've allowed, blocked or turned off (their names and random ids), its button mapping and a log on your PC: in %APPDATA%\Wheel on Windows, and ~/.config/Wheel on Linux. You can forget any phone, or all of them, from its window. It sends nothing anywhere but to the phones on your network. The pages it shows phones (the one the code opens, and the app's download) are served by your PC, on your network.
What Wheel doesn't do
No accounts, no ads, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no tracking. Wheel doesn't use your camera: you scan the PC's code with your phone's own camera app.
Permissions
- Network access and Wi-Fi state, to talk to your PC on your Wi-Fi and keep the Wi-Fi in low-latency mode while you drive.
- Keep awake, for that low-latency Wi-Fi.
- Vibration, for the game's rumble and for button clicks.
